Practice Update: CoolSculpting Now Offered At Sanova Dermatology!

You asked for it. We heard you!

Body Contouring is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures asked for by patients. “It’s simple really,” says Dr. Miriam Hanson, dermatologist and cosmetic expert in Austin, Texas. “You can lose weight, you can diet, but there are often stubborn, discrete areas left behind.” CoolScupting (by Zeltiq) treats targeted areas, freezing fat cells for the trimmer, more contoured body that you desire.

“It’s not always about being fat or skinny,” explains Dr. Adam Mamelak, dermatologist at Sanova Dermatology. “Body contouring is designed for patients that claim their clothes ‘don’t hang right’ or say they are ‘between sizes.'”  Body Contouring treatments like Coolsculpting address areas that don’t typically respond to diet and exercise.

Dr.  Hanson and Dr. Mamelak are proud to announce the addition of this technology at Sanova Dermatology, continuing to consistently offer modern cosmetic technologies to the people of Central Texas.

CoolSculpting is the only non-invasive treatment that utilizes cooling technology to freeze fat cells without damaging the skin. When applied targeted areas such as the abdomen, thighs, and arms, fat is essentially frozen away, contouring the shape of the body. This non-surgical and non-invasive treatment takes one hour per treated area, which will offer noticeable results as early as three weeks after treatment.

“It’s a far cry from the cryotherapy patients expect at a dermatology office,” says Dr. Mamelak.

After visiting the doctor and establishing a treatment plan, a simple visit to Sanova Dermatology over a lunch hour could allow enough time to make the change you are looking for.

What To Expect During Treatment

CoolSculpting is an outpatient procedure, with no pre-treatment or pre-operative restrictions. A cooling cloth will be applied to the area of treatment, which offers protection of the skin and an environment conducive of freezing the fat cells. Suction will be applied from the hand piece, starting the procedure. Patients will feel mild suction, and a cold sensation similar to an ice cube being applied to the skin.

Immediately after the procedure, the treated area appears red and firm, which subsides relatively quickly. The body then metabolizes and disposes of the frozen fat cells over the next few months, revealing a more shapely physique.

Who Can Be Treated With CoolSculpting?

Coolsculpting is not designed for weight lose. It is ideally suited for individuals who struggle with problem areas. “Love handles, tummies, thighs and arms” says Dr. Hanson, “these are the perfect areas to treat.” Patient should expect to lose 25-30% of the fat cells in the treated area.

Those who are near their ideal weight, but struggle with persistent, localized areas, are candidates for the CoolScultping procedure. This treatment is best utilized to contour and fine tune targeted areas of the body.

What Is The Downtime After Treatment?

There is virtually no downtime after your CoolSculpting procedure. Many patients return to work immediately treatment, noting no side effects beyond the redness in the treated area. Certain individuals may note minor bruising in the treated area which resolves within a few days.

“It’s really night and day compared to older treatments,” explains Dr. Mamelak. “With tummy tucks and liposuction, patients had significant pain and downtime after their procedures, not to mention the chance of complications. Now, with non-invasive procedures like Coolsculpting and Kybella, patients can get the results they are looking for without weeks off of work or social activities.”
