Patrick Carrington, MD

Born in Alexandria, Louisiana, at 3 lbs 13 oz, Dr. Carrington was the 3rd of 4 boys who grew up in Central Louisiana, New Orleans, Denver and Rifle, Colorado, then Belcher and Shreveport, Louisiana. As the geographic lines changed and moved for schools in the 60’s in Shreveport, he attended Broadmoor Jr High, Youree Drive Jr High, Byrd High School, then finished at Captain Shreve High School in 1969.  In 1973 he completed a 4-year curriculum at Northwestern St University in Natchitoches with a major in Zoology / Pre-Med, and minors in Chemistry, German, and Psychology.  Then it was off to Medical School at LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport finishing in 1977.  After a brief stint in post-graduate training in Psychiatry in Columbia, Missouri, he returned to Confederate Memorial Medical Center and completed a Transitional or Rotating Internship December of 1978 then 18 months of Anatomic Pathology at LSU Medical Center, then began 3 years of training in Dermatology to include LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport then finishing at Charity Hospital of New Orleans on the Tulane University Dermatology Service.  He was Chief Resident his 3rd year and completed an American Cancer Society Rotation in Melanoma and Dysplastic Nevi with Dr. Ed Krementz at Tulane University, an Honor.

Returning to Shreveport July 1983 Dr. Carrington practiced with Drs Winder, Turk, and Jones for a while then opened his own practice in SE Shreveport.  He was even with Highland Clinic for awhile then became the first full-time staff in Dermatology at LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport where he stayed from 1991 till 1994 leaving to become an Associate Professor in Dermatology at the Univ Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas with Dr. Jere Guin.  He eventually became a full Professor of Dermatology as well as the Chief of the Dermatology Service at the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System retiring in 2007.  He then moved to Denver and entered private practice with Dr. Leslie Stewart at the Greenwood Village Office but returned to Shreveport February 2014, to teach again at LSUHSC which lasted till June 5, 2015, when he resigned from LSUHSC.  He began private practice again at Dr. Turk’s Shreveport and Bossier City offices after he retired in May 2018. 

Dr. Carrington is married to Ann T Carrington Ph.D. and they have two Golden Retrievers, Lillie and Murphy without which they never travel.  His daughter Laura Grieder and her husband Reggie have his 3 grandchildren here in Shreveport, Christopher, Ella Grace, and Will, and his son, Chris and his wife Amy have two grandchildren in Denver, Jane, and Swift.  Ryan Watson is married to Melanie and is Ann’s son in Shreveport.  He is a graphic designer of the best kind graduating from Centenary College in his specialty.

Dr. Carrington’s special interests have always been music as he is a drummer since the age of 14, piano, cross-harp (harmonica), photography, animals (especially dogs), camping, reading and writing poetry, and teaching which he found especially rewarding in the past.

His special interests in Dermatology have always included neoplasia and skin cancers, CTCL or Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma, pharmacology, macronutrients, and, again, teaching.

With tremendous, unyielding respect for Drs Turk and Winder and Jones, Dr. Carrington carries on the legacy of their incredible clinical acumen and manages the Shreveport and Bossier City offices not unlike a University Dermatology Service, enjoying the toughest of cases and trying to disseminate valid and accurate information for patients. This helps in yielding a better patient result as his patients learn more and more about their problems, diseases, and treatment.
