PRP with Microneedling

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) has long been utilized in its injectable form for purposes ranging from tendinitis to dentistry due to its healing properties. Blood contains several components: erythrocytes (red blood cells), leukocytes (white blood cells), and platelets, along with plasma. Plasma is primarily water, but is also made up of proteins, glucose, minerals, carbon dioxide, and oxygen. Platelet rich plasma is derived from a person’s own plasma and has been altered to enrich the potency of platelets when compared to blood in its natural form. “Skin ages due to natural human processes and environmental factors. Platelet rich plasma releases different types of growth components that aid with skin regeneration when injected into tissue” explains Emily Johnston, physician assistant at Sanova Dermatology – North Austin in Austin, Texas.

Platelet rich plasma can be used to balance skin texture and tone, decrease signs of aging, and improve pores. “Platelet rich plasma is an alternative to chemical treatments, is minimally invasive, and there is a low risk that a patient’s body will refuse their own blood” explains Emily.

Skin may look blushed and have the feeling of being in the sun slightly too long after receiving the treatment, although recovery time usually takes a short 24-72 hours. Approximately 1-3 treatments may be needed before noticing visible results.

Microneedling, or collagen induction therapy, is a rejuvenation process where thin needles are used to generate hundreds of minuscule holes in the first layer of one’s skin. Despite how it might sound, the treatment is minimally invasive and essentially painless – while also offering amazing results. “The miniature wounds activate the body’s natural response to mend and repair, thus prompting cell turnover, increased collagen, and elastin production: all of which regress and preempt noticeable signs of aging” explains Johnston. Microneedling is also beneficial in reducing the appearance of scars, acne, hyperpigmentation, and stretch marks. Approximately 4-12 treatments may be needed before noticing visible results.

Emily explains that “platelet rich plasma and mirconeedling can be used together, thus enhancing one another’s beneficial properties.” The platelet rich plasma is administered into the micro-holes in the skin to increase the vitalization of the skin and collagen production. Skin is rejuvenated, refreshed, and regenerated.
