BOTOX® Cosmetic FAQ

Portrait of a young woman with wrinkles

As a non-invasive form of facial rejuvenation, BOTOX® Cosmetic can give you younger looking skin without surgery. Our patients at Sanova Dermatology frequently ask our dermatologists questions about the popular injectable when deciding if it’s best for their needs, including:

What areas can be treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic has the ability to smooth fine lines and wrinkles in a number of facial areas, including on the forehead, crow’s feet, and at the corners of the mouth. It can also be used to define the jawline, slim a square jaw, and even treat wrinkles on the neck.

How long do BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments take?
For most patients, BOTOX® injections can be completed in as little as 15 minutes. The total time depends upon the number of areas being treated. Since it is a relatively quick treatment, many patients visit our office for the procedure during their lunch break.

Do BOTOX® injections hurt?
Some patients may experience minimal to mild discomfort during treatment, but this can be minimized with topical numbing cream and typically fades within minutes after the procedure.

What are the side effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic?
It is normal to experience minor redness, swelling, or rarely bruising at the injection site, but these side effects normally disappear quickly.

How soon will I see results?
After 2-3 days, you should begin to see the effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic, but the final results of the injections are seen after 1-2 weeks post-treatment.

How long do BOTOX® Cosmetic results last?
For most patients, the results of a single treatment session last 3-6 months. Routine follow-up treatments are recommended to maintain optimal results.
