In October 2012, Drs. Adam Mamelak and Miriam Hanson were nationally recognized by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) for their Pioneers of Healthy Skin video! The Sanova Dermatology video was selected by a panel of healthcare professionals from numerous submissions as the most effective and informative educational message regarding the qualifications of the individuals who provide cosmetic services and skin care. As members of the ASDS, both Drs. Mamelak and Hanson are dedicated to providing individualized skin care in a safe and effective manner. “Patient safety is really the key,” explains Dr. Mamelak who is featured in the video. “Dermatologists and dermatologic surgeons have been instrumental in inventing, developing, improving and optimizing many of the cosmetic procedures available today.”
It’s true. Dermatologists have played a fundamental role in the development in everything from BOTOX® and dermal fillers, to laser devices, hair transplantation and liposuction. “Just because dermatologists have made these treatments easy for patients, it doesn’t mean they are simple for the people delivering the treatments,” says Dr. Hanson. Dr. Hanson considers all cosmetic procedures as medical procedures, and should only be performed by qualified health care professionals. “It is essential that anyone treating a patient have a detailed understanding of these technologies and how these interact with the skin and body.”
“We’ve seen too many examples of scarring after laser, BOTOX® gone bad and severe reactions from dermal fillers when patients are treated by people without the proper training or supervision.” Dr. Mamelak’s motivation for making the video was to highlight the difference in training between physicians and other providers who consider themselves ‘skin experts.’
Sanova Dermatology is proud of their physicians who continue to advocate for the safety of their patients and hold themselves to the highest standard in patient care.
