Men & Cosmetic Dermatology

Age is just a number but let’s face it, looking younger feels pretty good! Neurotoxins and dermal fillers aren’t just for women. In fact, almost 500,000 men received Botox injections last year alone. “Men are turning to different cosmetic treatments such as Botox and dermal fillers to help achieve a stronger, more defined and overall rejuvenated appearance,” says Sanova Dermatology physician assistant Sally Santos.

Dermal Fillers – The Plumping Platform

“Dermal fillers consist of hyaluronic acid that plump areas of volume loss such as the temple, which produces the appearance of a stronger facial structure,” states PA Santos. Hyaluronic acid can also add volume to areas such as under the eyes to reduce the appearance of dark circles. Utilizing dermal fillers in the lip area will add a stronger and more defined look. More and more people, especially men, are opting for noninvasive options when considering cosmetic procedures.

Botox –  The New “Brotox”

There has been a recent increase in the number of men interested in neurotoxins such as Botox. Because men have more muscle mass than women, they require a higher dose when treated. Botox works by relaxing the facial muscles that cause wrinkles to appear, mainly by blocking the nerve synapses. Since 2010, the number of men receiving Botox treatments has increased by 27%, and the trend is now called “Brotox” when Botox is used and “Dudesport” when Dysport is used. Most frequently, men are opting for Botox around their eyes and eyebrow areas to help with crows feet that appear with age.

Men want to look young and attractive just as much as women do. Opting for noninvasive cosmetic options have allowed them to do this.  Growing older doesn’t have to be painful any longer thanks to dermal fillers and Botox!
