Body Contouring

Minimally invasive procedures have come front and center in cosmetic medicine. Unlike 20 years ago, surgery is typically now the patient’s last resort. With minimal discomfort and downtime, it is no wonder procedures like BOTOX® Cosmetic, dermal fillers, peels, and laser treatments have become so popular.

By utilizing the latest technology, the providers at Sanova Dermatology are able to do so much more. Who would have thought that our team would be able to eliminate wrinkles with a simple injection, or remove scars without extensive surgery? For the longest time, body contouring was one area that did not have a minimally invasive solution. Thankfully, technology has once again been developed to address this.

What Is Body Contouring?

bodyfull copy 2Body contouring literally refers to modifying the shape of a person’s body. There are various types of body contouring procedures available. This can range from surgical procedures, like liposuction, tummy tucks, fat transfer and breast lifts, to non-surgical options, like KYBELLA® and CoolSculpting®. Just as JUVÉDERM®, Restylane®, and other fillers can be used to restore volume and contour the face, these non-surgical treatments can be used to modify and contour the shape of your body. CoolSculpting®, for example, utilizes cooling energy to destroy fat cells and contour the abdomen, hips and other areas.

Why Body Contouring?

No matter our weight or how much we diet or exercise, many of us have “stubborn areas” that just do not respond to traditional weight loss methods or training. It might be the love handles or thighs, but many patients will have unwanted fat deposits they cannot seem to get rid of.

It’s not always about the perfect beach body. Many are frustrated with how their clothes hang. They say they’re ‘in between’ sizes, or can’t find shirts or pants that fit them well. It is not about being fat or skinny; it is about shape. Traditionally, liposuction and other surgical procedures were the only option for patients looking to sculpt their bodies. Newer, minimally invasive body contouring procedures can now break down fat without the downtime and risks associated with surgery.

Is Body Contouring Right For Me?

It’s probably the versatility of these procedures that is so attractive to patients. Some that are interested in CoolSculpting®, for example, are struggling to lose their post-baby weight. Others may be at their ideal weight but are looking for a finishing touch. They might already be committed to a training and gym routine, but need a little extra help to flatten their tummy or tone their waistline. Other candidates may have lost significant weight but want to target specific areas that are not seeing the benefits of their efforts. It is important to note, however, body contouring is not about weight, but rather having the right frame and figure that would lend itself well to treatment.

Whether it is KYBELLA® or CoolSculpting®, patients of any size could potentially benefit from body contouring treatments. To find out if you are a good candidate for these non-surgical procedures, it is best to consult your doctor for evaluation.
