What Is Sculptra Aesthetic?

How Does Sculptra® Aesthetic Work?

Collagen is an important structural component of the skin and soft tissues of the face. When we age, we lose collagen, and our face becomes thinner and can appear hollow or sunken. “Traditional fillers may not be able to address the volume loss that occurs throughout the face,” explains Dr. Kimberly Finder, a board-certified dermatologist and cosmetic expert at Sanova Dermatology – San Antonio Medical Center. “Fillers give instant change, but Sculptra® Aesthetic works gradually,” she continues. It creates collagen within weeks to months, and this new collagen structure provides a foundation that gradually restores the more youthful look of fullness.

Am I a Good Candidate for Sculptra® Aesthetic?

“This treatment is ideal for patients who are losing volume in their faces as they age,” notes Dr. Finder. Sculptra® Aesthetic can be placed almost anywhere there is volume loss. We lose volume at every level of our face, including loss of bone, muscle mass, and soft tissue. Sculptra® Aesthetic can address the appearance of this loss in a unique way.

How Long Does a Typical Treatment Take?

Sculptra® Aesthetic is administered in a series of treatment sessions. “On average, three treatment sessions are needed over a few months, but I will work with my patient and tailor the sessions to best suit their specific concerns and desired outcome,” encourages Dr. Finder. Once the desired appearance is achieved, the results can last up to two years. After each session you will look very natural and usually makeup may be applied right after.

What Results Will I See?

“Since this treatment requires three sessions, you’ll begin to notice a fuller and more youthful-looking face along your three to four-month treatment journey,” says Dr. Finder. The amazing thing about this treatment option is its longevity. According to its manufacturer, 80% of Sculptra® Aesthetic rate their results as “good” or “excellent” even 25 months after treatment.

Is There Any Downtime?

You can wear makeup immediately after your treatment session. Patients who choose this injectable are instructed to massage their treatment area five times daily, for five minutes each massage, for the entire week after their treatment. “This regimen will help reduce side effects you may experience at the injection site, including bleeding, discomfort, redness, bruising, swelling, small bumps and lumps under the skin, or infection,” states Dr. Finder.
