Kristy Charles, MD
Dr. Kristy Charles is a board-certified dermatologist specializing in both medical and procedural dermatology. Dr. Charles assists her patients in maintaining healthy skin and creates effective routines to prevent the development of skin cancers. Known for her attention to detail, she excels at providing patients with thorough and clear treatment plans.
Dr. Charles received a Bachelor of Science undergraduate degree in biochemistry at the University of Michigan, graduating with highest distinction as summa cum laude. She obtained her medical degree at Tulane University School of Medicine, where she graduated first in her class and was elected president of a prestigious national medical honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha.
After Dr. Charles completed her dermatology residency at the University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor, Michigan, she was appointed clinical lecturer and was responsible for training residents. Following her time at the University of Michigan, she became an associate staff physician at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation where she continued to be involved in patient care as well as resident education.
She provides a variety of dermatologic care, from routine skin checks to complex dermatology, for both adult and pediatric patients. In addition to being trained in surgical removal of benign and malignant skin lesions, she has expertise in cosmetic procedures, including injectable fillers and neurotoxins, chemical peels, sclerotherapy, laser for vascular and pigmented lesions and facial rejuvenation. Dr. Charles has a special interest in alopecia, expertise in treating pediatric infantile hemangiomas and advanced dermoscopy skills allowing early detection of skin cancers.
Dr. Charles is also involved in various dermatologic associations, including the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery and the Women’s Dermatologic Society. Within the dermatology literature, she is published in both melanoma and infectious disease.
Besides being a highly skilled dermatologist, Dr. Charles enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter and golden retriever, Nola. She is also an avid runner, having previously run multiple marathons, including the Boston Marathon.
