What Causes Eczema?

EczemaEczema can result from a variety of factors. The extremely common skin condition is characterized by dry, itchy red patches on the skin caused by inflammation. Flare-ups of eczema can occur due to a number of reasons. The most common forms of the condition are considered hereditary, allergic, and irritant.

Depending on the type of eczema you suffer from, different elements can cause a reaction on your skin. These typically occur when your skin comes in contact with elements including perfumes, soaps, nickel, dry air, or rubber. Eczema can also be associated with medical conditions, however, such as asthma.

When you come in for your consultation at Sanova Dermatology, our experienced doctors will customize a treatment plan based on your individual case of eczema. The intention will be to calm and protect your skin while also treating inflammation. Topical or oral immune suppressing medications may be prescribed. Another solution we offer is Narrow Band UVB phototherapy, which is a light therapy that can help reduce outbreaks and spreading of the problem.
