Dr. Adam Mamelak was recently recognized by the American Society of Dermatological Surgery as a Choose Skin Health Top Screener.
Austin, TX — Aiming to increase early detection of skin cancer, dermatologist Dr. Adam Mamelak has previously offered free skin cancer screenings at his Austin practice, Sanova Dermatology. These free screenings are part of the “Choose Skin Health” program, implemented by the American Society of Dermatological Surgery (ASDS) and Neutrogena®. Dr. Mamelak was recently recognized by the ASDS for offering the the greatest number of free skin cancer screenings in his region, which consists of nine states. He says he is extremely proud to be making an impact in his community, and is happy to be participating in the program.
Sanova Dermatology recently posted a blog entry on its website regarding Dr. Mamelak being named a Choose Skin Health Top Screener. In the post, the practice stresses the fact that “skin cancer does not discriminate.” As a skin care specialist, Dr. Mamelak says he believes that skin cancer awareness is extremely important. He explains that Americans have seen an alarming rise in skin cancer occurrences over the past few years. Through the “Choose Skin Health” program, he and many other dermatologic surgeons nationwide are able to help prevent these statistics from continuing to rise by offering free skin cancer screenings.
Dr. Mamelak also helps to educate his patients on sun-safe behaviors, such as wearing sunscreen, protective clothing, hats, and sunglasses. According to the ASDS, one American dies of melanoma almost every hour. Dr. Mamelak says skin cancer prevention starts with early detection. He says he hopes his participation in the “Choose Skin Health” program can help to increase patients’ survival rates.
Dr. Mamelak also notes that he has recently seen an increase in demand for the free skin cancer screenings. Dr. Mamelak stresses the importance of these screenings for individuals who may be at a higher risk, such as those who have fair skin, a history of skin cancer, or extended exposure to the sun. He also says this time of year offers a reminder for individuals to have a skin cancer screening, since the official colors of skin cancer awareness – orange and black – are heavily featured for Halloween.
