Announcing Jeuveau for Fine Lines In The Glabella

There’s a new treatment breaking into the aesthetic market! Jeuveau™ from the company Evolus, also known as prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs, has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to improve the appearance of wrinkles in the glabella.

What is a Jeuveau?

Jeuveau is a purified protein formulation that is used to smooth fine lines and minimize movement in the desired treatment area. The lines that are created in these areas are caused by the consistent movement of specific muscles in the face. “Relaxing these muscles slows down or stops this process, and decreases the chances of deep permanent lines on the face,” explains Dr. Miriam Hanson, Cosmetic Dermatologist and skin care expert at Sanova Dermatology in North Austin, Texas. Currently Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are the top options in the market. These products are often cleared for medical uses as well, including hyperhidrosis and the treatment of moderate to severe migraines. Cosmetically a Jeuveau can assist in treating fine lines and wrinkles in the glabella, crow’s feet, lines around the mouth (DAOs), forehead, and more!

Why is Jeuveau a big deal?

“It’s actually really exciting,” exclaims Dr. Hanson. “Jeuveau is the first product in its class to be released into the market in over 10 years!” This says something about how strongly the manufacturer believes in its product, as it will have to compete with the already existing products.

“Not many aesthetic products go through the rigorous trials and, quite honestly, the practical testing that Jeuveau has had,” says Dr. Hanson. Beyond the U.S., in studies performed in Europe and Canada, Jeuveau went head-to-head with Botox and showed no inferiority or additional adverse effects. “Just as the investigators and cosmetic experts suggested in the studies, I am confident Jeuveau could be a major player in aesthetics and facial rejuvenation here in the United States”

Jeuveau is also the first product in its kind in the American market to have been FDA cleared solely for cosmetic use. Most previous formulations have started as a medical treatment and then tested in the cosmetic arena.

“It’s great to have something new in our aesthetic armamentarium as we continue to optimize our treatments for facial rejuvenation.”

Jeuveau will be launching in Spring of 2019 and is set to make a big splash on the cosmetic market.
