Is That MOM in the Mirror?

Your face, like your fingerprint, is unique to you. But one day is…THAT DAY!  When you look in the mirror and see your mother staring back, and she looks horrified; that may be the day you think about dermal fillers.

face of young beautiful healthy woman and reflection in the mirrorThe lines and wrinkles that have you despairing are the result of dehydration of your skin, due in large part to reduced amounts of Hyaluronic Acid (HA). It retains moisture and fills in the spaces between cells, lubricates skin, hair, joints, and eyes.

“HA works with collagen to give young skin its smooth appearance,” says Dr. Miriam Hanson, dermatologist and cosmetic expert in Austin, Texas. “We have it in great abundance in our youth, but the body produces less of it with age.” Wrinkles are the result, but you don’t have to live with them.

Have no fear. There is a way to restore what was lost. There are three Restylane products that can replace what Mother Nature has taken away.

Restylane is…

An injectable gel of hyaluronic acid that fills in the wrinkles, lines and folds that make you look older than you feel. Gel comes in three “thicknesses” to address different problems and areas of the face.

Restylane Lyft® is the densest gel, usually used in the mid face when a more dramatic correction is needed to fill in deeper wrinkles. “I like it to plump cheeks and create greater definition when contouring the flatter planes of the face and firm jowls,” says Dr. Kellie Reed, a dermatologist at Sanova Dermatology.

Restylane®, the “mid-size” model, fills fine lines, smile lines, under-eye sags and moderate wrinkles in every part of the face. “It is our first line of defense when wrinkles begin to appear,” says Dr. Reed.

Restylane Silk® has the lightest consistency, intended for the mouth and lips. Vertical “smokers” pleats, and thinning lips respond well to “Silk“.  Many patients opt for lip enhancement to create a more “pouty” profile, or to define their lip line so lipstick doesn’t bleed.

How long does it last?

You will see the improvements almost immediately, but this non-surgical procedure is not a permanent fix. The manufacturer says:

With full treatment, you can see lasting results for up to 18 months with Restylane; 12 months in the cheeks and 6 months in facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, with Restylane® Lyft; and 6 months with Restylane® Silk.
